What Is a Differential Pressure Switch?
Air flows from a place of higher pressure to a place of lower pressure. Therefore, airflow can be monitored and controlled by increasing or decreasing the pressure in a room to prevent dirty air from entering or leaving the room.
A (fine) differential pressure switch is used for this monitoring and control.
Differential pressure switches are devices that sense the pressure difference (differential pressure) between two fluid points.
Differential pressure switches are used to measure gases and liquids, but those used to measure gases are sometimes called "differential pressure switches" to distinguish them from liquids.
Uses of Differential Pressure Switches
Differential pressure switches are used in fields where extremely high safety and strict maintenance are required at all times, and where strict performance requirements and requirements must be met.
Examples include systems used in the chemical and petrochemical processing, oil and gas industries, and energy-related facilities such as nuclear power plants and water management.
Other applications include heating/ventilation of fans, filter conditions in air conditioners, exhaust ducts, combustion exhaust gases in automobiles, etc., and preventive maintenance and energy saving applications with respect to gas pressure.
Principle of Differential Pressure Switches
The following is a description of the operating principle of a typical differential pressure switch.
When a change in differential pressure occurs on either side of a bellows (telescopic tube with bellows structure) or diaphragm (pneumatically operated regulating valve used for automatic control of pressure, flow rate, liquid level, etc.). The bellows or diaphragm is connected to a compensated spring, and resistance is applied by this spring. .
The spring tension corresponds to the preset value of the differential pressure.
This preset value can be set to be activated by either an increase or decrease in differential pressure.
When the pressure difference between two points reaches above or below this preset value, a spring moves, and this spring tension is transmitted to the snap switch.
This activates the microswitch containing the electrical contacts and outputs a contact signal.
The aforementioned spring is also called a rage spring, and can be summarized as follows: the range of pressure that activates the differential pressure switch is determined by adjusting the compression force of the rage spring.
