What Is a Particle Sensor?
A particle sensor is a device that counts the number of particles in the air inhaled for a certain period. They are mainly used in clean rooms. A particle counter is a similar device, and its use is almost the same.
A particle sensor is capable of continuous measurement, while some particle counters are not capable of continuous measurement.
Particle counters tend to measure more accurately than particle sensor, tend to be larger, and have models that can be used in liquid as well as air. High-performance models can measure particles of 0.1㎛ and larger.
Uses of Particle Sensors
Particle sensors are installed in clean rooms to monitor cleanliness.

Principle of Particle Sensors
The principle of particle sensors can be broadly divided into two types: light scattering and light shielding. Both types have a built-in pump for sucking in air and perform continuous measurement at a constant speed.
In a light-scattering particle sensor, a photodiode detects the scattering of light when a laser strikes a particle in the air and converts it into an electrical signal. The size and number of particles can be counted based on the number and strength of the electrical signal caused by the scattering of light.
In a light-shielding particle sensor, the diode is constantly illuminated with light. The size and number of particles are counted by detecting the electrical signals generated by the weakening of the particles in the air as they pass through the light.
Particle sensors are quite delicate depending on their accuracy, so in common with light scattering and light shielding methods, if the particle sensor's measurement accuracy is too high for the cleanliness of the clean room, the measurement error will be large.
Therefore, it is necessary to select a model with an appropriate measurement range.
