A position switch is a contact-type detection sensor used in factory production equipment.
When a detecting body pushes a movable pin attached to the end of a position switch up to a certain line, the sensor turns on and determines the presence of the object.
The use of the switch is similar to that of a microswitch or limit switch, but the durability and accuracy are different.
Position switch is highly accurate, with precision types capable of detecting in the micron range, and some types are durable up to 3 million times.
Position switches are used in the following applications
Position switches consist of a measuring element that is in direct contact with the sensing element, a screw-shaped mounting portion, and a wiring portion.
Each position switch has its own characteristics: the distance to the operating end of the measuring element is called stroke, the amount of retraction of the measuring element until the sensor turns on is called pre-travel, and the error when the measuring element is restored to its original state is called hysteresis.
Considering these characteristics, it is necessary to select a position switch suitable for the conditions of use.
In addition, the measuring element also has characteristics, and there are various types in size and shape.
There are flat and spherical types in terms of shape, and selection is based on the shape of the part that the sensing element makes contact with.
Furthermore, if the contact point is at an angle, a normal measuring element will not be able to detect it, so a "ball bearing type" for angular contact is used.
In addition, if the operating environment is machine tools where coolant splashes or dust is generated, such as in welding or polishing processes, it is necessary to select a type with a waterproof or dustproof structure.
