What Is a Cargo Securement?
A cargo securement refers to the method of preventing cargo on pallets, cargo on the loading platform, and inventory in warehouses from collapsing. Industrial accidents caused by collapsed cargo can cause extensive damage, not only to human casualties, but also to the collapsed cargo.
Uses of Cargo Securements
Cargo securements are generally used to prevent cargo from falling by securing the cargo with ropes or sheets. By securing the cargo, the center of gravity of the cargo is kept constant, thereby reducing the risk of the cargo losing its balance.
Recently, products to prevent cargo securements have evolved, including elastic bands and belts, the application of an adhesive to prevent cargo collapse, and the use of protective fences around the cargo storage area.
Unlike conventional methods of securing cargo with multiple layers of film or other materials, stretchable bands and belts can be locked in place with a single touch simply by circling the band around the cargo. The band is made of a special fiber that is stretchable and can be used for many types of cargo.
Cargo securements using adhesives is achieved by applying a water-soluble adhesive to the top of the cargo, which provides resistance to lateral movement. The application of the adhesive increases the frictional force between loads, preventing them from slipping down.
The method of enclosing the cargo yard with a protective fence is effective when the cargo yard is always fixed and the cargo is consolidated. This method can also be used for heavy loads and provides a high level of safety in the event of a load collapse.
