This section provides an overview for fine meshes as well as their applications and principles. Also, please take a look at the list of 7 fine mesh manufacturers and their company rankings.

A fine mesh is available in two types: welded wire mesh, in which metal wires of 0.5 to 2 mm in diameter are electrically resistance welded in a grid pattern to form a mesh. There is also plain weave wire mesh, in which ultra-fine wires with a minimum diameter of 0.02 mm are used. The welded type is more workable than conventional plain weave wire mesh or crimped wire mesh with bent wires due to welded joints, with no metal wire loss and no wobble or crease. The ultrafine wire plain weave type utilizes the filter effect of its extremely small mesh.
Depending on the application, iron wire, galvanized iron wire, stainless steel wire, brass wire, copper wire, etc., are used as metal wire.
Fine meshes are used for various applications in a wide range of fields, depending on the mesh size and metal wire diameter.
The ultra-fine plain weave type is used as a filter material in dust filters for home appliances, air filters for automobiles, and oil filters.
The small welded type is used for storage in household racks and baskets, and for industrial applications in parts transport containers, parts trays for chemical processing, and cleaning baskets. Large welded types are used as reinforcement materials, such as fences for housing, bird nets for agriculture, and concrete core materials for construction.
Fine meshes are specified by the wire diameter and mesh size of the metal wire used. In the standards table, mesh size is noted in terms of pitch, gap, or mesh.
The pitch is the distance between the metal wire lines on the opposite sides of the square that form the mesh, and the gap is equal to the inner dimension of the mesh, i.e., the pitch minus one wire diameter. Mesh is the number of meshes at a distance of 25.4 mm (1 inch) and is equal to the value of a 1 inch/pitch.
Metal wire used in welding type fine meshes ranges in wire diameter from 0.5 to 2.0 mm, and mesh size from 1 to 4 mesh and 0.25 to 1 inch pitch. Ultra fine wire plain weave types are available with a minimum wire diameter of 0.02 mm and a maximum mesh of 635 (pitch 0.04 mm).
In fine meshes, the vertical and horizontal metal wires overlap, so the mesh thickness is twice the diameter of the metal wire. There is also a flat mesh where the vertical and horizontal metal wires are completely welded together at the weld intersection, in which case the thickness is equal to the metal wire diameter and the shear strength is twice as high.
