This section provides an overview for carrier tapes as well as their applications and principles. Also, please take a look at the list of 10 carrier tape manufacturers and their company rankings.
Table of Contents
Carrier tape is tape used for transporting and storing electronic components, semiconductor semiconductor parts, and microchips.
The main materials used are those using chemical products such as polystyrene resin and paper.
Carrier tape makes it possible to package semiconductors one by one, transport them to assembly plants, and set them on component assembly machines called mounters for transportation and storage at component manufacturers and at assembly plants because microchips of extremely small size are difficult to handle during transportation and storage.
Carrier tape is used to package ultra-small chip size components, demand for which is rapidly growing due to the spread of mobile terminals and PCs.
Examples of ultra-small chip components include integrated circuits (ICs), chip resistors, capacitors, coils, transformers, switches, connectors, relays, quartz crystals, LEDs, transistors, and diodes.
Depending on the size and application of the component to be packaged, paper or embossed products are used.
The shape of the pocket is modified according to the components used in IT devices.
Micro carrier tapes are intended for extremely small devices. With the spread of smartphones and tablets, the size of components is becoming minuscule. This product was developed to package those tiny components.
Vacuum rotary molding reduces the opening R and enables sharp pocket molding that retains firm vertical walls.
Ribbed carrier tapes provide ribs in the pockets to prevent lead breakthrough and inhibit component movement. Also, to prevent device adsorption, a step is provided at the bottom of the pocket to float the device.
Transparent conductive carrier tape has excellent visibility, conductivity, and heat resistance. Since it is non-carbon, it is a clean product with low dust generation. They are used for LEDs and automotive products that are sensitive to dust.
