About This Product

■What Is Zinc Plating?

Zinc plating is a representative surface treatment aimed at rust and corrosion prevention of steel through a zinc coating. Zinc plating alone does not have a particularly good appearance. However, applying chromate treatment after zinc plating increases the corrosion resistance of the zinc surface and improves corrosion resistance while adding an attractive appearance.

■Bright Chromate (Trivalent), Colored Chromate, Black Chromate

As a representative rust-preventive plating method for steel, it is used in a wide range of fields. In addition to being extremely effective for corrosion protection of iron, advances in plating baths and chromate treatment have improved its appearance, earning it high marks in decorative applications as well. In response to environmental concerns, we have switched from bright chromate to trivalent chromate.

■Features of Zinc Plating

① Zinc plating can be applied at a nearly uniform thickness even to machined materials with relatively complex shapes. ② In neutral environments, zinc plating has a passive region and good corrosion resistance; corrosion is particularly low in the pH 8 to 12 range, and its corrosion rate in the atmosphere is extremely slow, about 1/100 that of iron. ③ Zinc plating has a strong sacrificial protective action for iron, so even if the plated surface is scratched and part of the iron surface is exposed, it still prevents rust. Since the chromate coating applied as a post-treatment prevents white rust on zinc for a long period, the synergistic effect with ① to ③ makes its rust-preventive effect far superior to other rust-prevention treatments. It also offers excellent secondary workability after plating.
