A resin ball (plastic ball) is a general term for spherical objects made of resin (high-molecular compounds such as polyurethane, polyester, and acrylic), which are widely used in everyday objects and as important parts of medical and industrial machinery.
They come in a variety of sizes ranging from a few millimeters to several centimeters in diameter, depending on the application.
Acrylic resin balls are used in everyday items such as decorations, ball lenses, toys, and game consoles due to their high transparency.
In medical and industrial equipment, acrylic resin balls are used in important parts that serve as bearings for rotating and reciprocating mechanical parts called bearings, and in valves such as safety valves and check valves in liquid and gas piping.
In particular, due to their insulation and abrasion resistance, resin balls are very effective in special environments such as medical equipment where electricity or magnetic force should not be applied, where metal parts cannot be used, or where they are to be used in chemicals (acids, alkalis, organic solvents, etc.).
There are two main types of resin balls: thermosetting resin and thermoplastic resin.
Thermosetting resins are liquid resins (phenol, epoxy, unsaturated polyester, etc.) that harden when heat is applied during the molding process.
Thermosetting resins are hard, insulating, voltage and heat resistant, and resistant to solvents.
Thermoplastic resins (polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, acrylic, etc.) are resins that soften when they reach their glass transition temperature or melting point.
Unlike thermosetting resins, these resins can be recycled because they soften when heated and can be molded again.
Compared to metal, resin is superior in terms of insulation, corrosion resistance, and chemical resistance.
