"Floor" means "platform" and "scale" means "measuring instrument." As the name implies, a floor scale is a platform scale that can be installed on the floor to measure the weight of large objects.
There are two types of floor scales: the above-ground type, which can be moved and installed wherever necessary, and the pit-mounted type, in which the platform is flat against the ground. The dimensions of the platform are generally approximately 1 to 2 meters square. The maximum weight that can be weighed ranges from less than 1 ton to more than 10 tons.
Depending on the model, floor scales have various features, such as a low-floor type or height-adjustable type for easy loading, waterproof and dustproof construction for harsh on-site environments, and non-slip coating for safe loading of weighing objects.
Connect the attached indicator to the base of the main unit. When a weighing object is placed on the base, the internal sensor measures the load, and the weight is digitally displayed on the indicator.
Floor scales are used for weighing operations in a wide range of industries, such as logistics warehouses, agricultural markets, chemical plants, and food factories. For example, in logistics warehouses, they are used to weigh pallets loaded with cardboard boxes. In factories, caster-equipped tanks and wagons containing raw materials and processed products are weighed by attaching a ramp to the loading platform to enable loading and unloading of carts.
Weights are measured by a built-in load cell. A load cell is a sensor that detects force such as mass, converts it into an electrical signal, and outputs the signal.
There are several types of load cells, such as capacitance type and electromagnetic induction type, but the type used in most scales is the strain gauge type that applies electrical resistance. Strain gauge load cells have the advantages of high accuracy, short measurement time, and longer life than other sensors. Another reason for their widespread use is that they are relatively inexpensive and can easily perform arithmetic processing using electrical signals.
Strain gauge load cells consist of a strain generator and a strain gauge. The strain generator is a metal part that expands or contracts to generate strain when an external force is applied. The strain gauge is a sensor attached to the strain generator and detects the change in electrical resistance that occurs in response to the magnitude of the strain. The change in electrical resistance detected by the gauge is converted into a voltage signal in an electrical circuit called a bridge circuit.
When an object is placed on the platform, strain is generated in the built-in load cell, and the resistance value at that time is converted into an electrical signal that is digitally processed to display the weight on the indicator.
