An ozone deodorizer is a device that utilizes the sterilizing and deodorizing properties of ozone to eliminate odors from indoor air. Ozone, produced from atmospheric oxygen by ultraviolet rays, effectively kills bacteria, and viruses, and decomposes various odor components. This method of deodorization is distinct from air purifiers, which rely on filters and activated carbon, as ozone deodorizers chemically decompose the odor molecules themselves. They are effective against a wide range of odors including those from garbage, sewage, body, smoke, and even mold and cooking smells.
Ozone's unique ability to deodorize comes from its instability, as the extra oxygen atom in its molecular structure seeks to oxidize and stabilize in the presence of bacteria or odorous substances.
Ozone deodorizers are categorized based on their ozone concentration. High-concentration models are powerful in odor removal but must be used in unoccupied spaces due to potential health concerns. Low-concentration models, producing less than 10 mg/h of ozone, are safe for use in living spaces. Ozone deodorizers are particularly suitable for areas with high human activity, food handling, or the presence of small children, as they sterilize and deodorize without leaving harmful residues.
