Ceramic tape is a tape made from spun yarn, in which ceramic fibers are mixed with a small amount of organic fibers and reinforced with glass fibers.
Ceramic refers to all materials other than metal, wood, and plastic that are manmade. It is made by mixing rocks, clay, and other minerals, molding them, and baking them.
A ceramic tape is more heat resistant than fiberglass and is used as a heat insulator in places where high temperatures are encountered, such as in the process of covering boilers, pipes, etc. with heat insulating material (lagging).
Because of its high heat resistance, ceramic tapes are used in places where high temperatures are present, such as shut-off curtains, pipe insulation, and combustion work.
Specifically, it is used for lagging of boilers and pipes, insulation of piping and exhaust ducts, curtains in front of furnaces, covers for heat treatment slow cooling, spark prevention during welding, spatter prevention, and heat-resistant packing.
It is also used for filling brick expansion allowance, sealing furnace doors, heat-resistant covering of water hoses, curing high-temperature parts of internal combustion machine mufflers, blocking radiant heat, preventing burns, and more.
Ceramic tapes are made of spun yarn, consisting of ceramic fibers and a small amount of organic fibers, reinforced with glass fibers, and has excellent heat resistance and flexibility. It can be used as a substitute for asbestos.
It is suitable for heat insulation, heat insulation, and cold insulation, and is especially used as a heat insulator for places with high temperatures.
It is relatively inexpensive compared to silica cloth and alumina tapes.
Amorphous ceramic fiber (refractory ceramic fiber/ RCF) is subject to RCF regulations, which require notification of RCF use, working environment measurements, measures as a specially controlled substance, appointment of a chief worker, and special health checkups, and other measures are required.
Currently, there are products that do not use RCF and are not subject to RCF regulation.
These include products that use bio-soluble fiber (BSF) as the main raw material, glass fiber, SUS wire, Inconel wire, etc. as the base wire, and organic fiber (rayon, etc.) is added as a reinforcement material instead of RCF.
