■Product Description

Its main component is an uncured polyurethane resin (prepolymer) , and because it is written in English as Poly Urethane Reactive Hot Melt Adhesive, it is called PUR or PURHMA after its initials. Many people have heard of it recently, but how does it differ from the EVA hot melt adhesives used until now? Conventional EVA hot melt adhesives can repeat the cycle of melting when heated and solidifying when cooled any number of times. This, however, was also a weakness, as EVA types have poor heat resistance. Because PUR has the property of curing by reacting with moisture in the air and with moisture contained in the adherend, the product is packaged in a sealed state before use. At normal temperature and pressure it is a solid, and once the packaging is opened and it is placed in an environment where it is exposed to moisture such as humidity, the reaction begins and it changes into an even tougher solid. While it is unreacted, the cycle of melting by heat and solidifying by cooling can be repeated, but as the reaction proceeds it becomes harder to melt by heating and finally becomes a tough solid that will not melt at all. In this way, PUR is an adhesive that combines the properties of both an ordinary hot melt adhesive and a reactive adhesive. Once the reaction has finished, PUR forms a tough film and exhibits strong adhesion, and because it will never melt again with heat, it also offers excellent heat resistance and cold resistance. Because it combines a tough film with strong adhesive performance, the amount applied per book can be reduced considerably compared with conventional EVA hot melt adhesives. As a result, books open more easily, and because the adhesive is resistant to fragmentation, it can also be said to contribute to paper recycling. Because PUR reacts with moisture in the air, using it requires not a conventional hot melt melting unit but a melting unit designed for reactive hot melts that completely blocks out air. There are also handling precautions that differ from those for conventional hot melt adhesives.
