The process of joining the spine-lined book block to the cover is called casing-in. Starch paste and emulsion-type adhesives are used at this stage. A wide variety of materials are used for covers, including board covers widely used for general books and picture books, polyvinyl chloride covers used for dictionaries, thin covers common in notebooks and planners, and, more recently, covers using olefin resins.
