Industrial inkjet printer basically operate using the same principle as consumer products, printing by dropping ink in the form of dots.
The difference between industrial inkjet printer and consumer marketed printers lie in their intended use. While consumer marketed print text and photographs on paper, industrial printers can print product information such as barcodes and expiration dates on packages and on materials other than paper. In addition, there are some that can apply designs to the surface of CDs, bottles, etc.
Unlike consumer marketed, industrial inkjet printers can print on a variety of shapes and materials.
They can print on curved, polyhedral, and other three-dimensional surfaces, as well as on materials with uneven surfaces, which cannot be printed on with ordinary printers. They can also be used for large format printing and product designing in small lots, which is impossible with consumer marketed printers.
Another difference from consumer printers is that 2.5D printing, in which the thickness of the ink is also incorporated into the design, is also possible.
Industrial inkjet printers can be divided into the drop-on-demand (DOD) method and the continuous inkjet printing (CIJ) method.
The DOD method uses multiple nozzles and non-volatile ink, while the CIJ method uses a single nozzle and volatile ink.
In the CIJ method, pressurized ink circulates in the printer and drops from the nozzle at the appropriate timing. Since ink is constantly circulated in this method, volatile inks with excellent drying properties can be used.
