What Is a Soft Down Stay?
A soft down stay is a stay that is designed to come down more slowly than a normal stay.

Principle of Soft Down Stays
Soft down stays incorporate a mechanism called the RAPCON mechanism, which allows them to move more slowly and softly than normal stays.
The RAPCON mechanism is a damper structure of a cylinder filled with a highly viscous liquid. In the middle of the cylinder, there is an orifice, which is narrower than the rest of the cylinder. When opening and closing, the liquid in the cylinder is pushed or pulled through the orifice, creating resistance, which in turn generates resistance torque. This torque depends on the viscosity of the liquid, and adjusting the viscosity adjusts the torque. Viscosity changes with temperature, with the features of viscosity decreasing as temperature increases, and freezing occurs when the temperature is too low. Therefore, it is necessary to select a fluid with stable viscosity in the temperature range of normal use.
