A roller plunger is a spring-loaded plunger with a roller tip.
Since the tip of the plunger is a roller, it can slide 360 degrees and return to its original position when there is no more object to push. The pressure of the spring can absorb any unevenness in the object, and the spring makes point contact, enabling highly accurate positioning.
Roller plungers are mainly used for positioning and fixing workpieces in the machining field. They can also be used for positioning drill holes by using them to fix a specific point on the workpiece. They are also used in relief valves in pump discharge piping.
They are also used as part of limit switches in electronic equipment.
Roller plungers are generally of the threaded type without a flange, since they are inserted into the hole together with the spring. The body material is made of metal, such as stainless steel, etc., and also resin.
Some roller plungers have composite ball structure of a large-diameter main ball and multiple extremely small-diameter sub-balls to achieve wear resistance and low friction at the same time. Examples of specifications for upward-facing roller plungers using a composite ball structure are: screw diameter M8~M20, overall length 14mm~30mm, and load capacity 5N~62N.
The material specifications of this metal roller plunger are SUS304 equivalent for the body, and SUS440C for both the main ball and sub-ball. Roller plungers of flange type are also available, and their shapes include hexagonal bolt, round bolt, and lounge type, which are selected according to the application.
