A level set is a jig or tool used to fix a workpiece (workpiece to be machined) in a predetermined position for machining, and many types of level set are made according to the level set by the uses of the workpiece.
The workpiece positioning in 3D space is based on the principle of the "3-2-1 rule," and accurate positioning is possible when this principle is followed.
This "3-2-1 rule" refers to the number of coordinate points in a 3-dimensional space consisting of three coordinates (XYZ), where one plane is defined as the reference plane and three points are assigned to that plane, and two and one points are assigned to other planes, respectively.
Level sets are installed in a timely manner according to this "3-2-1 rule" as needed.
Level sets are name given to level sets based on their function, and various types of level sets are manufactured according to their specific shapes and materials for various applications.
For example, in the field of machining, L-shaped workpieces and blocks are made of metal or resin, and in the production line, many workpieces made of resin are manufactured as needed to prevent damage to products.
The shape and material of the level sets are selected according to the processing accuracy required for positioning applications and the durability required for production line applications.
Since level sets are component related to the accuracy of positioning, the materials used for level sets are carefully examined and manufactured.
As an example of level sets specifications, the material is SS400 with electroless nickel plating with a plating thickness of 5 to 10 μm.
"SS400" is a type of rolled steel sheet for the general structure of which the carbon content is not specifically specified, but is usually as low as 0.15~0.20% and is one of the low carbon steels. Because of its low carbon content, this "SS400" steel material cannot be strengthened by heat treatment, but is instead considered having fewer heat-related problems.
Electroless nickel plating is often used for machine parts as a plating with excellent corrosion and wear resistance if the plating thickness and other factors are properly controlled, due to its superior film hardness.
Electroless nickel plating usually contains phosphorus, and there are three types according to the phosphorus content: low, medium, and high, each with different physical properties that must be kept in mind. Incidentally, the phosphorus content of the medium phosphorus type is 7 to 9%.
