What Is a Locating Ring?
A locating ring is used to align the molding machine with the mold.
They are attached to the mold with two or four rings to ensure high-precision alignment of the nozzle of the molding machine and the sprue of the mold. A locating ring plays an important role in attaching the molding machine to the mold.
Misalignment between the mold sprue bushing and the injection nozzle of the molding machine can lead to leakage of injection material and defects in the molded product, causing major problems.
Uses of Locating Rings
Locating rings are attached to the top of the mold to align the injection nozzle of the injection molding machine with the entrance of the sprue bush and the hole in the fixed side mounting plate of the mold.
In addition to ensuring high-precision positioning of the injection molding machine and mold, locating rings are also used to facilitate the mounting of the mold to the injection molding machine.
Types of Locating Rings
Currently, there are four types of locating rings: Type A, Type B, Type AJ, and Type BJ.
The current AJ and BJ types are based on the inner shape of the locating rings: the AJ type has no taper, while the BJ type has a taper. Since locating rings were first used to align injection molding machines with molds, it is assumed that tapered rings were also introduced to facilitate the fitting of molds.
In the field of machining, tapered machines have been used for a long time to facilitate the fitting of machines. The revised Type A is defined as a tapered type, while Type B is defined as a type without even an internal hole.
