About This Product

■What is diamond burnishing? Burnishing is a method of improving the surface roughness of metal products by crushing the fine peaks (grips) that remain after turning them. Diamond burnishing is a tool that combines high hardness and wear-resistant "single crystal diamond" with a spring mechanism that maintains the appropriate pressure for processing. ■Target equipment General-purpose lathe, CNC lathe ■Applicable location Outer diameter/inner diameter processing ■Effect Improved surface roughness, reduced polishing time ■Notes It is not a removal process but a plastic deformation process. ■Features Improves surface roughness without producing chips in the lathe. This is a tool that improves the surface roughness of the straight part of the outer diameter (inner diameter) of the workpiece by pressing a hard diamond against the ridges of the sawn marks after turning and moving them to the troughs, reducing the height of the ridges. Made in Japan with peace of mind, the diamonds can be repolished. ■Shape modification is not possible The displacement area of burnishing is about 3 to 5μ. It is not suitable for modifying the shape (dimensions, cylindricity, parallelism, etc.). ■Not suitable for strict mirror finishing Although burnishing improves the mechanical surface roughness, it leaves striped patterns as plastic marks on the machined surface. If you want to obtain a mirror surface for external finishing or optical purposes, be sure to use grinding, lapping, buffing, and other processes for finishing. ■Not suitable for complex shapes A spring built into the holder applies pressure to the diamond at the tip. Due to this structure, the tip of the diamond is moved by the force of a spring when feeding is applied during processing. For this reason, we do not recommend using it on tapered or R-shaped parts as it may leave unfinished areas or cause scratches. There are individual differences in the shape of diamonds, and trying to mold them into any shape would result in an unrealistically priced tool, so we intentionally avoid making them into a fixed shape. For this reason, it cannot be applied to creases or grooves. ■Please use cooling media When machining, be sure to cool with coolant or cooling air. Failure to cool the diamond may result in significant wear and cracking of the diamond.
