This is a type of retaining ring called a "thrust direction mounting type" that is used by fitting along a circularly grooved shaft. In addition to fixing parts, they are also used for positioning and preventing them from coming off. It is called C-shaped because its appearance resembles the letter C, and it is also called a retaining ring, circlip, or snap ring. There are two types: one for shafts that clamp the shaft from the outside, and one for holes that is installed inside a hole and used as a retaining ring. For installation, C-type retaining ring pliers are required for the shaft, and C-type retaining ring pliers are required for the hole.
