These pins are used in a variety of places such as automobiles, railway vehicles, engineering and construction machinery, etc., to prevent them from falling off, rotating, and falling out. Cotter pins are inserted into the prepared holes of bolts or shafts, and by widening (bending) the shaft, the split pins do not come out of the holes, preventing the object to be fastened from rotating or falling off. JIS standards require that pins "must not crack even if they are bent outward at an angle of about 90 degrees three times," but as a general rule, split pins are not reused. Matsuba pins and snap pins, also known as R pins, are used to position the pin to prevent rotation, prevent it from coming off, and connect by inserting the straight part of the pin into the pin hole and pinching it with the curved R part. Compared to split pins, they have the advantage of functioning simply by inserting them into the pin hole, are easy to remove, and can be reused. However, it may fall off due to vibration, etc., so use a cotter pin to ensure that it does not fall off.
