An isolator is a device used to isolate (ex. signals).
Isolators refer to different things depending on the industry in which they are used. In the electrical and electronics industry, they refer to devices that isolate analog signals. In the construction industry, isolators are devices that insulate buildings from earthquakes. In the medical and pharmaceutical industries, it refers to a device used to insulate a system from outside germs.
The word "isolator" is derived from the English word "isolation", which means being separated or insulated. Therefore, an isolator means something that insulates and directly expresses its function.

Isolators in the electronics industry completely isolate incoming electrical signals from the outside world and output the same signals from the output terminals. Specifically, after the output voltage is amplified and detected via an amplifier in response to the input signal, the signal is transmitted to the output circuit for output. In the case of voltage input, the signal is input directly, and in the case of current input, the signal is converted to voltage input via a resistor. The type of output signal is converted according to demand, so it can also be used as a signal converter.
Isolators in the building industry are constructed to dissipate vibration by placing a highly elastic material, such as rubber, under the main steel frame. When an earthquake occurs in a high-rise building, the amplitude amplifies toward the top, and the mechanical shock becomes more powerful. By absorbing the shock underground with seismic isolation rubber, the amplitude is reduced, and the mechanical shock to the building is mitigated.
Isolators in the pharmaceutical industry are devices that, like draft chambers, have suction fans and constantly maintain negative pressure to prevent bacteria and poisons from flowing out of the system. Inflowing gases are sterilized with hydrogen peroxide, etc., to ensure a sterile environment within the system.
