They are suitable for grinding not only flat surfaces but also thin materials and curves, providing a wider, softer grinding area and a smoother finish.
To use an offset grinding wheel on a disc grinder, install the wheel with the convex center facing the fixed flange. Tilt the grinder at an angle of about 15°-30° for usage. A larger angle provides a stronger polish but increases the risk of scratching and danger to the user. Since a new grinding wheel may bite into the material, initially grind by pulling the body and shaving the outer circumference to remove corners. Once rounded, either pushing or pulling can be used.
Safety is paramount when using offset grinding wheels. Ensure the wheel matches the grinder's specifications, use it at or below the maximum operating speed, always attach the grinder's cover, check the wheel's condition, wear protective gear, secure the work area, and firmly fix the workpiece.
