Cleanroom Papers are papers that can be used in cleanrooms, and are also called dustproof or dust-free papers.
They have low dust emission, which is a prerequisite for clean room products, and also has excellent functions as paper, such as ease of copying and printing, and ease of cutting.
Normal copy paper and notebook paper cannot be used in clean rooms because of their dust emission. Most Cleanroom Papers are colored blue or other colors so that they can be easily distinguished from these papers.
Because Cleanroom Papers have low dust emission, they can be used in place of regular copy paper and notebook paper in cleanrooms where dust emission is not allowed.
For example, in semiconductor manufacturing plants, Cleanroom Papers are used for tables (flow charts) that list work conditions and product types.
Some Cleanroom Papers are made of conductive fibers to give them conductivity. Electronic industrial products such as silicon wafers and substrates are one of the things that do not like static electricity when working. Conductive clean paper does not easily generate static electricity, so it can be used as the interleaving paper for these products. Conductive Cleanroom Papers should be tested when used as copy paper, because printing may not be fixed on some types of copy machines.
Cleanroom Papers are manufactured using different methods and materials than regular papers.
Ordinary copy paper and notebook paper are often made from short fibers of wood pulp. Since staple fibers tend to shed from the paper, products made from staple fibers usually have higher dust emission. Long fibers are selectively used in Cleanroom Papers, and the fibers are strongly bonded to each other, resulting in lower dust emission.
Another difference between Cleanroom Papers and regular papers is that no pigments are used in the coloring of Cleanroom Papers. Pigments, such as calcium carbonate and titanium, are added to make the paper whiter and more opaque. Ordinary paper produces dust derived from these pigments. Cleanroom Papers use liquid dyes as colorants, so they do not generate dust from pigments.
Other measures to prevent dust emission include using a resin to harden the fibers and prevent them from falling out.
