A footlift is a device that can lift heavy objects like a forklift by operating the lift hydraulically with a foot pedal. Some models are equipped with casters and can be moved, while others are fixed to the floor.
Unlike the electro-hydraulic type, there is no need for an external power supply, so it can be used in any location, but it requires dozens of footsteps to lift high. Also, the load capacity of a foot lift is smaller than that of an electro-hydraulic type.
Footlifts are mainly used in factories, distribution centers, warehouses, and other places where things are frequently transported. A fixed type can lift heavy objects to high places. Footlifts with casters can move objects from one place to another without lifting.
There are two types of footlift: one that raises the top plate and one that raises the forks like a forklift. The forklift type can lift objects and load them directly onto a truck or other vehicle.
A footlift uses hydraulic pressure to raise the lift. This is because a hydraulic type is smaller and lighter than a pneumatic type, has a better response, and can produce more power.
In a hydraulic footlift, oil is placed inside a small cylinder to be stepped on and a large cylinder to raise the lift to transmit power. By stepping on the small cylinder, the oil gradually moves into the inside of the large cylinder, and Pascal's theorem allows the lift to rise with great force. The smaller the cylinder is to be stepped on and the larger the cylinder is to raise the lift, the more force can be transmitted, but the distance that can be raised by a single footstep is shorter.
Footlifts have a release lever to lower the lift. Pulling the lever releases the oil inside the cylinder that raises the lift, allowing it to be lowered.
