Series 172 is a dry spring actuated hydraulically released brake developed by Ortlinghaus for servomotor presses. This brake is normally used to keep the machine stopped, but it can also be used as a safety brake for emergency stops. The main features of this brake are that it can be installed in the smallest space, the moment of inertia of the parts rotated by the drive motor is small, and the switching time can be shortened.
Designed as a multi-disc brake, it is capable of transmitting high torque. Additionally, the sealed design reduces external contamination from the brakes and minimizes noise. Since it is a dry type, there is no undesirable entrainment torque generated during normal press operation when the brake is released.
