About This Product

Vertical closing rotary dampers are suitable for operations where the torque decreases as the lid closes. A rotary damper is a mechanical component used to slowly close lids and covers using the viscous resistance of oil. For example, it helps reduce the impact of toilet seat lids and piano keyboard lids closing, reduces the noise caused by slamming, and improves safety by preventing fingers from getting caught. ■Basic structure/principle of rotary damper

Rotary dampers are divided into finite angle types, which have limited opening and closing angles, and infinite angle types, which have no restrictions on opening and closing angles and exert a constant torque in one direction. You can select the appropriate rotary damper depending on the movement and operating angle.

■Basic structure of finite angle type

The finite angle type generates torque by adjusting the shaft groove and suppressing the flow of silicone oil. Although there are restrictions on the angles that can be used, this type provides relatively high torque compared to infinite angle types.

■How to use finite angle type

There are three ways to use the finite angle type: horizontal closure, vertical closure, and diagonal closure with a modified high torque range.

For example, it cushions the speed at which a cup holder is pulled out and the force with which a console box or rice cooker lid flips up. It also has the effect of slowly closing the exit of a vending machine or the keyboard lid of a piano.

■Vertical closure

Vertical closure is applied when the moving part of the application is suspended vertically in its final position. A rotary damper is placed at the center of rotation, and the torque of the rotary damper is maximum in the horizontal position and then gradually decreases.
