About This Product

■Component crack length detection

The RDS gauge series is a crack length detection gauge that determines the degree of crack propagation in components (parts).

■RDS: Gauge that measures the degree of crack propagation

RDS gauges are used to measure the degree of crack propagation in components. There are four types of RDS series. ・RDS20 and RDS40 types consist of multiple resistor tracks that are electrically isolated from each other. In this case, individual tracks are severed as the crack grows. If each track is connected individually, the direction in which the crack extends can be detected. Again, individual tracks are severed as the crack extends. ・RDS17.8 and RDS22 are made of a grid made up of multiple resistors arranged in parallel, so that when a crack reaches the bottom of the gauge, the corresponding resistor is cut off. As the crack spreads, the electrical resistance of the strain gauge gradually increases. Measure this change in resistance using a resistance meter or strain gauge amplifier.

■Connection of crack propagation measurement gauge and signal detection

Since resistance measurements can be used to detect the signal of the crack propagation measurement gauge RDS, an HBM DAQ system can be used for this application (such as QuantumX or MGCplus). The resistance value (R) of this RDS depends on the number of broken links and can be easily calculated using the following formula: can be easily calculated. In this gauge, n identical resistors (Ri) are connected in parallel. Rn=Ri/n If one resistor in the grid is disconnected: R (n-1) =Ri/ (n-1) Measurement is performed using a mechanism similar to that of a strain gauge measurement amplifier. This schematic shows how RDS compensates for resistance changes that occur within the measurement range of a single-gauge bridge strain gauge amplifier. To minimize temperature effects, a high fixed resistor or strain gauge made of temperature stable material should be used as the completion resistor. Higher sensitivity can be obtained by choosing parallel resistors with higher resistance values.
