■SummaryOdin™ is an all-in-one solution for metabolic characterization, growth rate, and identification of cells. Efficiently phenotype microorganisms by screening hundreds to thousands of different substrates and growth conditions in a controlled environment. Simply set up to 50 plates and the plates will be automatically measured at the appropriate temperature and time.

■Metabolic phenotypic profiling is critical in determining how efficiently microorganisms can work.Applications include determining the best media to produce drugs, finding the best nitrogen-fixing bacterial strains, tracking production over passages, understanding the metabolic effects of gene editing, and many more. Microorganisms may also grow better at different temperatures and different feed sources, and understanding all of this can be a daunting task.

Utilizing Odin™, cell phenotypes can be efficiently distinguished under various parameters. When used in conjunction with Biolog's Phenotype MicroArray (PM Microplate), data is automatically captured that reflects the growth and respiration of each well on the plate for microorganisms cultured under a variety of conditions. You can literally screen for thousands of conditions simultaneously.

■Odin confirms in two ways.Measuring NADH production from the color change of the reporter dye at the first wavelength effectively determines the rate of metabolic respiration. Additionally, optical density (OD) measurements at a second wavelength can determine the rate of microbial division. By combining these, it is possible to get a complete picture of how microorganisms are optimally growing. If your focus is on cell growth, remove the dye. Odin™ automatically compares cell growth and metabolic activity curves, giving you a clearer picture of how fast or slow your cells are growing.

■Odin™ can measure up to 50 microplates.Odin™ software is designed to manage situations where different experiments need to start at different times. You can reserve a position without worrying about what other researchers are already doing.
