Flowtech Pitot tubes measure flow using the differential pressure principle. The volumetric flow rate is calculated using Bernoulli's law from the difference between static pressure and dynamic pressure, taking into account the pipe inner diameter. Optimize flow rate evaluation with four dynamic pressure ports. This enables highly accurate measurements. The design is such that the flow branches on the upstream side. The flow follows the pitot tube.
This feature makes it possible to derive a stable flow coefficient at the downstream measurement point even under high flow conditions. Vortices are generated around the pitot tube depending on the inner diameter, fluid properties, and Reynolds number. A support is installed on the opposite side of the pipe to counteract the pitot tube's natural vibration and vortex excitation resonance. Necessary testing is done during the design stage.
The differential pressure in the pitot tube is usually fed into a differential pressure transmitter and converted into an electrical signal. The electrical signal is proportional to the flow rate. Differential pressure gauges and differential pressure switches are also used for field indication and switching purposes. Pitot tubes are suitable for measuring flow when a single-phase fluid fills the pipe.
