■The expiration date for water meters is set at 8 years by national law.
National laws and regulations (Measurement Law) stipulate that only products that have been certified by a public agency or inspected within a specified period of time, and that have a valid period of 8 years can be used. Submeters whose expiration date has passed must be replaced with a new one or one that has been repaired and re-certified (inspected).
■About water meter management
Water meters in collective facilities such as rental buildings and condominiums are divided into two types: a parent meter and a child meter.

■About the validity period and certification of meters stipulated by the Measurement Act
It is stipulated that "measuring instruments used for transactions or certification cannot be used unless they have passed certification and are within their expiration date." (Article 16 of the Measurement Act)
