About This Product

■What is an inertial measurement unit (IMU)?

The Inertial Measurement Unit is equipped with a 3-axis angular velocity (gyro) sensor, 3-axis acceleration sensor, and a temperature sensor, and detects 3-dimensional inertial motion (translational motion and rotational motion in the directions of 3 orthogonal axes). The unit detects translational motion using an acceleration sensor (m/s^2) and rotational motion using a gyro sensor (°/s). It measures acceleration and angular velocity with high precision and uses the measurement results to understand, estimate, and control the behavior (posture/trajectory) of a moving body.

■IMU type (gyro sensor type)

The gyro sensors installed in the IMU generally use the ring laser gyroscope method, fiber optical gyroscope method, and MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical) method, in order of accuracy. The Epson IMU is equipped with a Quartz-MEMS type gyro sensor that combines a unique double-T structure element made of crystal and precision processing technology, achieving high precision and highly stable output. .

■Difference between IMU and sensor device

IMU: Through various corrections and calculations between each sensor, sensor output can be made highly stable and highly accurate. Sensor device: Since there is no compensation between each sensor, there is a limit to the performance of the sensor output.
