Descaler is used for the removal of scale, an inorganic salt compound such as calcium ions, magnesium ions, and silicon, contained in water that has adhered to vehicles and equipment. Scale is extremely hard and insoluble in water, making it difficult to remove once it adheres.
While there are methods to prevent scale formation in factories where water quality can be controlled, completely preventing rainwater-caused scale requires removing the wetted area before it dries out.
Descalers are particularly necessary on the body of a car after it has been wet by rainwater. Avoiding scale formation entirely is nearly impossible, as it would mean not driving in the rain or removing 100% of the rainwater before it dries each time. Scale formation in water pipes can lead to health hazards and blockages. In factories, scale occurs in pipes, pumps, and boilers, impacting product quality, equipment efficiency, and boiler effectiveness.
The primary method to remove scale involves reducing the pH of water below 10, thereby reducing scale generation. pH adjusters and oxygen scavengers can be used as descaling agents, but the latter can be hazardous to health. Instead, using a ceramic water reformer prevents scale formation; the reformed water makes it difficult for gases to vaporize, and calcium carbonate in scale compounds reacts with carbon dioxide in the water to become water-soluble calcium bicarbonate, which is easily detached.
In modified water, water molecules surround silicon, preventing gel film formation and thus silicon accumulation and scale adhesion. On the other hand, rainwater-caused scale, which does not change water quality, must be removed either physically or chemically. Physical removal involves using an abrasive sponge, which is effective but hard and can damage the paint and coating. Chemically, acidic chemicals can react with the scale for removal. This method is faster than abrasives and less stressful on coatings, but if used incorrectly, it can damage the car body and remove some types of paint and coatings.
