PTFE is a polymer compound made of carbon and fluorine bonded together. It can be synthesized by polymerizing the monomer TFE (tetrafluoroethylene), which contains many C-F bonds between carbon and fluorine. PTFE tubing is known for its heat resistance, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, non-adhesiveness, insulating properties, and weather resistance. It is also used in high-temperature locations such as around automobile engines.
PTFE tubing typically withstands temperatures ranging from -40 to 260°C. However, it's important to note that its breaking pressure value decreases with higher temperatures.
The minimum bending radius of PTFE tubing is related to its inner and outer diameter. For example, tubing with an inner diameter of 1 mm has a minimum bend radius of approximately 5 mm. Care should be taken to not exceed the recommended bending radius to avoid damage.
There are several types of fittings for PTFE tubing, including flare types where a flange is inserted into the end of the tube, and flange types that seal by pressing against the valve port. Fittings for tapered threads are also available, suitable for both straight and elbow connections.
The Synapse assembly tool is used for widening the inner diameter of PTFE tubing. Proper heating and cooling procedures are essential for effective use of this tool. Heating temperatures should be maintained between 280℃ and 380℃ to avoid generating toxic gases.
