Main features
■Wrinkles that occur during film productionMany rollers are built into the equipment that produces and processes film. If the rollers are not parallel to each other, a tension difference will occur in the width direction, causing wavy wrinkles (troughs) diagonally to the direction of travel of the substrate. In addition, when transporting thinner films, if the transport tension is set to the same level as for thicker films, the film will stretch in the transport direction, resulting in wavy wrinkles parallel to the transport direction. These wavy wrinkles can cause creases when the film passes through the rollers, which greatly reduces the commercial value of the film.

■Reducing wrinkles using concave rollersA concave roller is an inverted crown-shaped roller that is narrow in the center and thick at the ends. Compared to the center, the circumferential speed increases toward the ends due to the difference in outer diameter. Film tends to move toward the edge where the circumferential speed is faster. Additionally, the film has the property of entering in a direction perpendicular to the roller axis on the downstream side. These two effects widen the film and reduce wrinkles.
