■Non-contact thickness gauge for any alloy
The VTLG Laser Optical Thickness Measurement System combines maximum precision with design for rolling mills. Measurement accuracy down to ±0.5μm and scanning speed up to 80kHz provides the precision and measurement speed you need for strip thickness control. The VTLG system measures strip temperatures up to 180°C, despite thick rolling oil mist and oil droplets on the strip. In other words, it is a thickness gauge that can be installed even close to the roll gap, bringing new possibilities to your process control.
Like our contact gauges, they also measure thickness without contact, regardless of the alloy. These conditions are ideal for use not only in rolling mills, but also in pickling lines and finishing lines. VTLG works reliably even in cold rolling mills where high-density rolling oil mist is produced, which was thought to be impossible using optical methods. With a measuring depth of up to 1,480 mm and a measuring resolution of 0.1 um, lateral profiles can be measured even on wide strips.
VTLG 101/1 is specially designed for cold rolling of wheels with thickness between 0.003 and 2.0mm and can be installed very close to the roll gap even when rolling wheels, with an accuracy of ±0.5um It works.

Air cleaning for the measuring port and laser beam path and innovative temperature compensation ensure the highest accuracy even under difficult environmental conditions.
■Technical ability
The measurement principle is based on laser triangulation. A compact measuring head is placed above and below the sturdy C-frame, which transmits the measuring beam and receives the reflected light. Both sensors measure the distance from the strip surface from their point of view. The strip thickness is then calculated from the measured distance and the distance between the two sensors. Analog output with internal scan rate up to 80kHz provides input signal for fast thickness control within ms.
