About This Product

■Features

KFIM is a compact and easy-to-handle electric field ion microscope that allows you to easily observe the surface atomic image of the tip of a sharp metal needle. This device gradually increases the voltage applied to a metal tip set as a sample in an ultra-high vacuum environment, causing an FIM image to appear on the screen and evaluating the sharpness of the tip from the applied voltage. It is a chest microscope that can At the same time, a voltage is applied to the tip, which creates a cleaning effect that removes impurities attached to the surface of the tip. Furthermore, by increasing the voltage applied to the tip, electric field evaporation is performed, allowing atoms to be stripped off individually and the number of atoms at the tip can be adjusted, allowing for advanced experiments. These excellent characteristics of this device are utilized in a wide range of applications, including not only observation of metals at the atomic level, but also for tip evaluation in scanning tunneling microscopy environments, where a sharp metal tip is essential. , and are used in university laboratories. In addition, in terms of performance, this device can pump up to 10-8 Torr using a turbo molecular pump. Up to 6 tips can be stored at the same time, allowing continuous observation of samples. A chevron-type MCP is used for FIM images to achieve highly sensitive observation. Furthermore, each tip can be cooled on a block table that can be cooled by introducing liquid nitrogen, supporting a variety of experimental research with excellent specifications.

■FIM principle

Place the metal needle to be observed in a vacuum container so that its tip is perpendicular to the electrode coated with fluorescent material. Create a high vacuum inside the vacuum chamber, introduce a small amount of imaging gas, and then apply a positive high voltage to the tip. Where the atoms at the tip of the tip are lined up in an angular step, the electric field is locally concentrated more than in the surrounding area, and the He atoms floating in the vicinity are also ionized by the high electric field. The + ions fly towards the - electrode along the electric field lines and collide with each other, appearing as light spots on the screen. He atoms that approach the same location are ionized in the same way and repeatedly fly and collide with the - (negative) electrode in the same orbit. In actual FIM, the -electrode consists of a channel plate and a screen. One He ion is converted into hundreds of thousands of secondary electrons, amplified, and displayed at a brightness that can be seen directly with the naked eye.
