About This Product

The GERB wall viscous damper (GVWD) is a specially designed product of the consumer Visco® dampers. These are attached to buildings and structures to connect multiple floors. These reduce interstory drift rates excited by wind or earthquakes.
GVWD acts in one horizontal direction and promotes the overall damping of the structure. Reducing interstory drift reduces internal stresses and moments, improving comfort, safety, and reliability.
The GVWD consists of a steel housing connected to the lower floor/structure, an internal piston connected to the upper floor, and a viscous liquid in between. During excitation by earthquakes or strong winds, the relative displacement between the superstructure and substructure causes the piston to move through the viscous liquid. The generation of damping forces results in the dissipation of kinetic energy.
Depending on the required damping and/or to achieve an acceptable relative displacement between floors, different damper sizes with appropriate performance levels can be selected. It is also possible to use multiple dampers in parallel if necessary.
GERB wall viscous dampers are developed and designed to meet the needs of architects and structural engineers. Dampers come in a variety of sizes and can be installed within regular wall structures, making them suitable for new construction, but can also be employed as a retrofit.

GVWD is available in a variety of standard sizes ranging from 1,500mm to 2,400mm. We can also produce custom sizes upon request. GVWD transportation and installation will vary depending on specific project specifications.
