■Volklay mat (bentonite waterproof sheet) construction method

Volclay Mat is an environmentally friendly water-blocking sheet made from natural sodium bentonite produced in Wyoming, USA. It is widely used as a water-blocking material in biotopes, reservoirs, final waste treatment plants, etc. Because it is a natural material (inorganic), it can be expected to have stable water-blocking performance over a long period of time, and pinholes will expand to prevent water leakage. It can be used as a water barrier layer in reservoirs, final disposal sites, rivers, etc.

■High-performance water-blocking material Volclay made from natural materials

“Volclay Mat” developed by Setco (USA) is a high-performance, environmentally friendly waterproof material that uses natural sodium (Na) bentonite (Volclay) produced in Wyoming. Volklay Mat is only about 1cm thick and exhibits water-blocking performance comparable to a 50cm-thick clay soil water-blocking layer, and Volklay Na-type bentonite has a self-healing function and a simple joint processing method, making it superior to conventional resin sheets. It has features not found in Volclay Mat, which is environmentally friendly and has excellent quality and ease of construction, is widely used around the world as a water-blocking material and underground waterproofing material for biothobes, reservoirs, and final waste treatment plants. ■Excellent water impermeability

Forms an impermeable layer with a permeability coefficient of approximately 5×10^-9cm/sec.

■Semi-permanent durability

Bentonite is a natural inorganic substance, so you can expect stable water-blocking performance over a long period of time. Its use as a barrier material for radioactive waste is also being considered.

■Self-repairing property that is resistant to damage

Benite expands and fills in pinholes caused by nailing, preventing water leakage.

■Needle punch to prevent washing away and uneven distribution

Needle punched fibers not only prevent bentonite from being washed away and unevenly distributed, but also increase internal shear stress, making it possible to install on steep slopes.

■Nature-friendly natural bentonite

Bentonite, a natural mineral, has the same components as soil, and does not leach out substances that would have a negative impact on the environment.

■Easy construction

It is a flexible mat and comes in roll form. It can be installed by simply laying the floor with an overlapping width of 15 cm or more, without the need for special machinery or equipment, contributing to shortening the construction period.
