■What is Biotop Sand®?・Bio Top Sand® is a sand-like activated carbon derived from natural minerals whose main components are silicon dioxide (silica), carbon, and iron oxide. Activated carbon is well known for its deodorizing effect, and it also improves water quality and odor by adsorbing and decomposing organic compounds such as nitrogen and phosphorus, as well as blue-green algae and malodorous components.
-Used as a "water purification material by adsorbing organic matter and activating bacteria in lakes, marshes, ponds, irrigation canals, small rivers, etc."

■Effect/Efficacy・Adsorbs and decomposes organic compounds such as nitrogen and phosphorus that cause water pollution.
- Deodorizes, purifies, and suppresses various odors such as ammonia, amines, and formaldehyde.
- It colonizes and activates aerobic bacteria such as bacteria and microorganisms that are present on-site, promoting the decomposition of odors and pollutants.
- Stabilizes water quality by suppressing the accumulation of nitrous acid in the water environment and keeping the pH neutral.

■ Obtaining evidence of usefulness and safetyStructural analysis, compositional analysis, and adsorption performance studies conducted at the Nagoya University Graduate School of Materials Science and Engineering laboratory revealed that it had properties that could make it a promising adsorbent. We found that it is a structurally stable and safe material, and that it has good compatibility with the natural world.
