About This Product

■Nalgene water quality testing membrane (CN), sterile

Nitrocellulose (CN) membranes are free of extractables that can affect the pH of the culture medium or inhibit or promote microbial growth. Manufactured according to material standards and procedures established by APHA and EPA standards for water testing. The membrane is gridded and the gray membrane turns black when wet.

■Nalgene membrane filter (CA), non-sterile

Cellulose acetate (CA) membranes have low adsorption to proteins contained in serum and culture media, and are heat resistant and can be autoclaved (up to 125 °C)*. It has excellent chemical resistance against alcohol and oil, and can be used in conditions where it comes into contact with methyl ethyl ketone for a short period of time. The membrane can be made transparent with paraffin or almond oil for direct observation. Useful for filter sterilization of protein solutions and sample preparation for liquid scintillators. [Caution] Be sure to wet the filter before sterilizing it in an autoclave.

■Nalgene membrane filter (NYL), non-sterile

The nylon (NYL) membrane is hydrophilic, has very low extractables, and contains no surfactants. Because it is harder than cellulose membranes, it is easy to handle, and is useful for filtration that requires reducing contamination of filtrate, regardless of whether it is an aqueous or organic solvent. In addition to sterilizing and clarifying buffer solutions and culture media, it can also be used for electronics experiments using HPLC solvents and ultra-cleaning solutions.
