About This Product

■What is a cylindrical lens?

As the name suggests, it is a cylindrical lens. While a spherical lens is a part of a sphere, a cylindrical lens is a part of a cylinder. One direction of the lens surface has curvature, but one intersecting direction has no curvature. This special shape allows the incident light to be focused in a straight line, unlike a spherical lens, which focuses light on a single point.

■Applications of cylindrical lenses

Because it has a curvature in only one direction, it can be applied to image aspect conversion, and is also used in cinema camera lenses that shoot widescreen images (anamorphic lens). It is also used to shape the shape of laser beams in fields such as laser processing and optical communications.

■Specs

There is an element called generatrix deviation accuracy. This is equivalent to eccentricity in a spherical lens, but unlike a spherical lens, the center origin of the lens exists in a line, making it difficult to achieve accuracy. Generatrix deviations include shift deviation, tilt deviation, and inclination in the Z direction. These must be carefully considered when aligning the lens.

■Natsume Optical Cylindrical Lens

It is used in a variety of fields such as semiconductor exposure equipment, laser processing machines, and image aspect ratio conversion. We can accommodate your needs, from high-precision lenses for UV exposure to reasonably priced lenses for beam collimation. In addition to small-diameter rod lenses (cylindrical), we can also handle composite shapes that combine cylindrical surfaces + spherical surfaces, and cylindrical surfaces + prisms into one element.
