■Description

The PA164 and PA165 are high voltage MOSFET-based operational amplifiers with a monolithic amplifier core developed for high output current or high voltage, high density power applications. Both devices are designed to operate up to 200V, with the PA164 delivering 1A and the PA165 delivering 4A continuous current. Separate power supplies for the amplifier core and output stage optimize the power consumption of the entire device. Both devices feature a wide range of temperature-compensated current limits. Adding an overcurrent flag provides flexibility in implementing system protection, and an output disable feature allows for additional optional protection. External compensation capabilities give you the flexibility to choose the best gain and bandwidth for your application.

■Safe operating area (SOA)

The MOSFET output stage of the PA164/PA165 is not limited in terms of second-order breakdown considerations like bipolar output stages. Only thermal considerations and current handling capabilities limit SOA. The output stage is protected from transient flyback by a parasitic body diode in the output stage MOSFET structure. However, an external fast recovery diode must be used to protect against residual high-energy flyback.
