■Description

The PA52 is a MOSFET power operational amplifier that achieves a slew rate and power bandwidth that exceed the performance limits of power amplifiers, and maintains high current and high power consumption. A boosted voltage input allows the small signal section to operate at a higher voltage than the high current output stage. This biases the amplifier to swing linearly close to the supply rails at high currents, allowing efficient operation.

■Notes

PA52 consists of MOSFET transistors. Use caution when handling ESD (electrostatic discharge). The internal substrate contains beryllium oxide (BeO). Please do not open the seal. If accidentally damaged, please do not crush, machine or process at temperatures above 850℃ to avoid generating harmful gases.

■Current limit

PA52 has no internal circuitry for current limiting. However, the PA52 circuit board in the PA52 evaluation kit provides a means to sense the output current. Current limiting can be done by external circuitry if necessary.

■Boost operation

The VB feature allows the amplifier's small signal stage to operate at a higher supply voltage than the amplifier's high current output stage. +VB terminal (pin 11) and -VB terminal (pin 12) are connected to the small signal circuit of the amplifier. +VS (pins 9 and 10) and -VS (pins 3 and 4) are connected to the high current output stage. Adding 10V to the VB terminal allows the small signal stage to saturate the output transistors and improve the output voltage swing for more efficient operation if desired. If close swing to the power rail is not required, the +VB and +VS pins and -VB and -VS pins should be connected with straps. Also, the voltage at the boost voltage terminal must not be lower than the VS terminal.
