■Applications of diffuse sound field microphones

Diffuse-field microphones, also known as random-incidence microphones, are designed to have a flat frequency response in a sound field where sound waves arrive from all directions simultaneously. Therefore, it can be used not only in reverberation rooms, but also in diffuse spaces and sound fields that consist of multiple sound sources. Practical examples include measurements inside rooms where sound is reflected by walls, ceilings, objects, and inside cars.

■Robustness

The Type 4943 microphone is ruggedized to withstand the IEC 68–2–32 1m drop test. Assembled in a clean room, it provides reliable results even in high humidity environments.

■Calibration

If you attach the 1/2 inch adapter DP-0776 to the 4228 type piston phone, you can calibrate the sensitivity at 250Hz. You can also calibrate at 1kHz using the 4231 Sound Calibrator. You can calibrate other frequencies using the Model 4226 Multifunction Sound Calibrator. Actuator response can be measured with actuator UA-0033. Random incidence response is obtained by adding a random incidence correction specific to this microphone to the actuator response.
