About This Product

■Principle/Characteristics

By placing glass, zirconia, stainless steel, etc. beads and a sample in the same container and shaking or stirring them at high speed, the sample and beads collide violently, and the impact and rubbing action reliably crushes cell walls, etc. It is possible to cleanly recover target substances such as proteins, DNA, and RNA. Also recommended for screening.

■Selection of beads

・Bacteria, spores, lactic acid bacteria: 0.1mmφ glass beads ・Yeast, hyphae, tissue culture cells: 0.5mmφ glass beads ・Animal and plant tissue: 1.0mmφ glass beads or stainless steel beads

■Summary

The Bead Beater Basic System crushes microorganisms with an efficiency of over 95%. Generally, 1-80g (wet) cells can be processed in about 3 minutes. A strong shearing force is generated by stirring the glass beads using a fluororesin rotor that rotates at high speed in a clover-shaped chamber. Cells are disrupted quickly, effectively and safely in a confined space. The device is easy to clean, requires little installation space, and is basically maintenance-free. Beads settle in seconds and are easily separated.
