About This Product

■What is TAFAD?

"TAFAD treatment" is a special alumite treatment for adhesive bonding bases that maintains higher reliability than conventional base treatments, reduces environmental impact, and allows for free lead times. By using TAFAD, it is possible to improve the performance of the base material and to bond without using adhesives. Possibilities such as new products with high added value and improvements in product production process design can be expanded.

■What is adhesive bonding?

Adhesion has the image of gluing and is often thought of as a low-strength joining method. It is true that it cannot reach the same level as welding in terms of stress, but it can demonstrate high strength in areas where the joint area can be increased. It also has the characteristics of being able to join dissimilar materials and not requiring high temperatures during joining. Aluminum/resin bonding systems are applicable to a wide variety of applications and technical fields, and are often used to reduce the weight of structures, improve the strength and reliability of joints, improve productivity, and reduce costs. These require excellent adhesive strength and adhesive durability that can withstand harsh usage conditions, and the surface treatment of the adherend (aluminum) is the key to the adhesive durability of aluminum. For example, when painting aluminum, most paints will have problems without surface preparation.

■Differences from conventional films

Compared to conventional chromium oxide conversion coating treatment and sulfuric acid anodization treatment, TAFAD treatment achieves values that greatly exceed adhesion strength, and no deterioration in adhesion strength is observed even after heating to 150℃.

■About expiration date (film life until adhesion)

When using a normal sulfuric acid anodized film as a base for painting or adhesion, it is known that the adhesion strength of the base is lost due to a change over time called natural sealing of the film, so it is necessary to proceed to the next process of painting and adhesion immediately after treatment (within at least one week). On the other hand, the film treated with TAFAD has the property of maintaining good adhesion strength even after one year has passed after treatment, which can be said to be a great practical advantage.

■Why is high adhesive strength achieved?

The high adhesion of TAFAD-treated aluminum alloys is thought to be due to the resin penetrating the porous layer of the anodized film with appropriately controlled pore size, creating an anchoring effect.

■Applications

・High heat dissipation aluminum printed circuit board base ・Sealing material bonding base for chemical processing equipment ・Various combinations are possible, such as bonding cloth and aluminum. ・Substrate for other aluminum resin composite materials
