UV adhesive is an adhesive that hardens by irradiating it with ultraviolet light, and its mechanism and properties are completely different from general solvent-based thermosetting adhesives. Mechanism of UV adhesive

■Unresponsive state

Adhesives contain monomers (or oligomers) and photocuring initiators. There are various types and formulations depending on the characteristics required for the adhesive.

■Photocuring initiator generates free radicals

Upon exposure to UV (ultraviolet) light, the photocuring initiator generates free radicals (highly reactive molecules).

■Polymer propagation

Curing begins when free radicals propagate to monomers (or oligomers) and cause them to polymerize.

■Polymer termination

By finishing polymerization at the appropriate timing, you can obtain a cured product with the desired physical properties. Typical thermosetting adhesives apply heat to polymers in a solvent, which crosslinks to form a cured product and dries the solvent, but the curing mechanism is completely different from that.

■In the automotive field

Light-curing adhesives, coatings, and encapsulants are used to protect and assemble advanced driver assistance systems, camera modules, infotainment centers, and electric vehicle batteries. Dymax's photocurable materials solve many challenges faced by automakers, including complex designs and reducing environmental impact.
