About This Product

The Smart pressure sensor SPD series is silicon-based and can be packaged in many types. The measurement pressure range can be varied between 10mBar and 20Bar in gauge pressure/differential pressure. For absolute pressure measurements, a reference vacuum chamber is created during die manufacturing. Bridge output pressure sensors require a universal transducer interface (UTI103) for proper use due to the variable bridge resistance. Smartec pressure sensors are based on the principle of membrane bending due to liquid or gas pressure. On top of the membrane is a thin conductive film layer that bends with the membrane. When the membrane bends, the resistance of this conductive coating layer changes. Smartec pressure sensors use four resistive coating layers to create a stable Wheatstone bridge similar to traditional strain gauges. Although the bending deformation of the membrane (and coating layer) is very small (<< 1 mm), it is still sufficient to measure the change in resistance. The resistance element in the film layer is subjected to tension or compression depending on the direction in which the film is bent. When the coating layer is compressed, the resistance decreases, and when it is stretched, the resistance increases. In a real sensor, this would create a positive or negative imbalance in the Wheatstone bridge, respectively. Generally, the resistance of the coating layer changes depending on the temperature, so temperature compensation is required. Smartec pressure sensors perform this temperature compensation in the amplifier to obtain a stable analog output.
