About This Product

■Excellent effectiveness under harsh conditions where regular lubricants are unsuitable.

Nichimori molybdenum disulfide powder is made from high-grade molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), which is made from natural molybdenum ore through a beneficiation and refining process. At our Tokyo factory, we further grind raw material coarse powder into fine particles (powder form) and manufacture high-quality molybdenum disulfide powder with adjusted particle size. Molybdenum disulfide has an outstanding coefficient of friction as a solid lubricant, and is highly effective under harsh conditions where ordinary lubricants cannot be expected to provide sufficient lubrication, and is used in oil products such as grease and oil. It is widely used as a raw material for resins, rubber parts, friction agents, etc.

■Intended use

- Ideal as an additive (solid lubricant) for improving the lubricity of lubricants in grease, oil, and lubricant paint products. - Ideal as an additive for improving physical properties such as wear resistance of brake pads and various friction agents. - Ideal as an additive for improving the self-lubricating properties of resin and rubber materials. - Ideal as a lubricant for plastic processing such as wire drawing.

■Characteristics of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)

・Composition: S=Mo=S ・Specific gravity: 4.8 ・Hardness: 1 (Mohs) ・Hue: Gray-black ・Friction coefficient: 0.04 ・Pressure load: Approx. 30,000kg/cm2 ・Using temperature range: -180℃ to 400℃ ・Chemical resistance: Extremely good (unaffected by anything other than aqua regia, hot sulfuric acid, and hot nitric acid) ・Heat resistance: Maintains low friction at -180°C to 400°C in air and up to 1,090°C in inert gas. - Corrosion resistance: Effective in preventing micro-movement corrosion (fretting corrosion). - High vacuum resistance: Demonstrates good lubricity even in high vacuum of 10^-8 torr or more. It also maintains lubricity even under high-density radiation.

■Why molybdenum disulfide slips well

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is a shiny mineral whose molecular layer is 1 μm thick and its particles have a layered structure of 1,600 overlapping flakes. When a load is applied, these components shift in a certain direction, so it is said to be a slippery lubricant.
